Information Literacy

“Information literacy is the ability to think critically and make balanced judgements about any information we find and use. It empowers us as citizens to develop informed views and to engage fully with society.”

This definition is one shared between CILIP in Scotland and CILIP UK wide.

CILIP’s Information Literacy Group released CILIP Definition of Information Literacy 2018 at the LILAC Conference and reinforces the relevance of information literacy in the current age.

Further information and resources can be found here on the CILIP wesbite.

CILIPS are represented at the Information Literacy Community of Practice that meets regularly and are working together to highlight the importance of information literacy based skills and the role that library and information staff can play in delivering these skills.
