School Library Advocacy

CILIPS set up a School Library Advocacy Group in 2012 and this was a Task and Finish Group of the CILIPS Trustee Board until 2016 set up to help respond to the growing number of cuts to school librarians. The group is now independent from CILIPS (called the School Library Alliance) and will continue to meet regularly. Please e mail for more details.

During it’s time as a CILIPS Task and Finish Group, the collective produced an advocacy strategy (you can view this on the right hand side), campaigned for school libraries and librarians and developed a strand at the CILIPS Autumn Gathering.

This work, combined with the work of other groups and individuals, eventually led to the Scottish Government establishing additional funding for school libraries and beginning the development of a strategy document.
