Advocacy
CILIPS aims to advocate the role and value of library and information professionals and services to all sections of the Scottish community.
Working with the Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC), this longstanding joint approach to advocacy and lobbying uses the respective strengths of each organisation to influence decision making, and demonstrate how library services of all kinds have a role to play in civil society.
This work is carried out by:
- Seeking to influence government policy as it relates to library and information provision
- Responding to consultations on behalf of our membership and sharing those responses with the membership
- Celebrating library and information service best practice by hosting guidelines on a range of topics on the website and through showcase events organised jointly with SLIC
- Supporting Council, P&R Committee and branches in their advocacy activities
- Providing information to support lobbying at local level by members
- Ensuring active representation on SLIC Board and with meetings with other stakeholders
