Council and governance

In recent years CILIPS has been working to ensure that the 1995 agreement and funding for staff and office costs is sustained and maintained at a level which enables CILIPS to continue its activities, advocacy and support networks for the membership in Scotland. Working with CILIP and fellow devolved branches in Northern Ireland and Wales, agreement to a new CILIP regulation is close. This will recognise the unique policy and advocacy role that the offices in the 3 home nations fulfil with regard to devolved policy and legislative matters. A draft agreement was reached between CILIP and the Devolved Nations Forum in June and this has been accepted by CILIP. A more detailed schedule will be developed and embedded in the CILIP regulations.

At the October meeting of CILIPS Council, Bob McKee, the CILIP Chief Executive introduced the ‘big conversation’ on ‘our professional future’ to take place amongst the membership. This would attempt to establish what people want from a professional organisation and discussions will take place with members in 2010.

Honorary Vice President

The Council records with sadness the death of Peter Grant, Honorary Vice President of CILIPS. Following years of considerable commitment to the development of the profession Peter was appointed SLA President in 1978. He was awarded Honorary Membership and went on to become an Honorary Vice President, a special role which recognises outstanding contribution to the profession in Scotland.
