Meet the President Event

Join the North East branch on the 16th May 2017 to hear CILIPS President Liz McGettigan talk about her experiences in the library and information world. There will be refreshments and the opportunity to ask Liz questions.

Liz is Director of Digital Library and Cultural Experiences at SOLUS UK. Liz is an award-winning Library and Information Specialist and a leader in the future library and transformation movement, recognized for integrating technology, people, social and business strategies into effective new business models and named as one of Scotland’s Top Tech 100 2017 driving the digital agenda in Scotland – putting libraries, information and innovative technology on the map. Liz was also named as the Scotsman’s top 10 Digital Disruptors 2016.

Prior to this role Liz was Head of Libraries and Information Service for the City of Edinburgh where she led the team to deliver Edinburgh’s first fully-online council service, social media suite and 24/7 interactive portals and apps. Passionate about digital and social inclusion Liz also initiated Edinburgh’s innovative digital participation project. Liz has worked in areas encompassing culture, leisure, heritage, community development and regeneration, external relations, fundraising and sponsorship.

This year on International Women’s Day Liz was honoured to be named as one of Scotland’s Women of Inspiration. Liz is also a Fellow of Royal Society of Arts, Senior Member of Society of IT Managers and a former Member of the Institute of Informatics and Digital Innovation Advisory Board at Edinburgh Napier University. Liz is Advisory Board member for Internet Librarian International.

Liz is passionate about leadership, learning and inclusion and especially the future and potential of libraries and has presented on her work around the world from Australia, US, Singapore and Buenos Aires to Paris and Amsterdam.

The free event will take place in Aberdeen’s Central Library and all are very much welcome. The library will be closed so to access the Committee Room please come to the middle door of the main library building which will be open and you will be able to get in there. The venue is wheelchair accessible.

CILIPS NE Branch are very pleased to offer one member in the North East of Scotland a sponsored place to CILIPS Conference 2017. The CILIP in Scotland Annual Conference 2017 ‘Strategies for Success’ takes place in the Apex Hotel, Dundee on 5th and 6th June (10am-4.30pm each day). What is covered:

The sponsored place will cover one day at the conference of your choice.


How to apply:

Submit a statement of no more than 300 words explaining why you would like to attend the Conference on a particular day that would contribute to your professional development? You may wish to mention any sessions in which you have a particular interest. The successful applicant would be responsible for arranging travel to Dundee themselves.



Send your application to by 5pm on Friday 5th May 2017.  The successful applicant will be contacted on 12th May.
