Budget decisions in Midlothian and Moray

Category: News

Midlothian and Moray Councils have confirmed their budgets following public consultations.

CILIPS were pleased to note that Midlothian Council rejected a proposal to close branch libraries and withdraw the mobile library service at a meeting on the 13th February.

Moray Council met on 14th February and voted through a proposal to reduce the number of school librarians by 50%. CILIPS had previously written to Moray Council to raise our deep concerns at this and to urge them to wait for the new national strategy for school libraries to be published (due August 2018) before making any decisions. CILIPS firmly believe that school libraries should be the central resource of a school, open every day and staffed by a dedicated professional librarian.
