CILIPS' role in supporting professional development includes the creation of resources that facilitate ongoing progression in key areas of library and information work.

These resources are often created in collaboration with members, and CILIPS often convenes working parties to address specific topics. CILIPS also works in collaboration with other appropriate bodies, including the Scottish Library and Information Council.
