Inspiring Women – UWS Lecture Series

The Inspiring Women lecture series at the University of the West of Scotland was created to help provide a platform of inspiration and support for students and staff within the University. It supports the University’s commitment to advancing the careers of women in higher education and research.

Beginning in 2014, the lecture series provides an opportunity for students, staff, and the wider public to hear from women who have been successful in their field, from science and business to the arts and humanities and beyond. The diversity of the speakers with a broad spectrum of backgrounds, interests, and experiences has encouraged engagement and discussion and the series is now one of the main features of the University’s events calendar.

We are happy to partner with UWS to deliver an Inspiring Women lecture at our 2020 Conference. UWS are also delighted to be a part of the Conference as a way to round off a year that brought an exciting and innovative mix of speakers and events, continuing to encourage delegates to be inspired, to be bold, to be ambitious, to break boundaries and challenge thinking.

Inspiring Women Breakout Session at the CILIPS Conference 2020 – Jeanette Castle

She has introduced innovative practice across the public library sector, including Ayr Carnegie Library Cybercentre (first in Scotland), joint work with NHS in supporting health literacy, Macmillan Cancer information support service in West Lothian Libraries, and was a core founder of the Ayrshire Libraries Forum.

Jeanette has also been heavily involved in encouraging professional development by serving as CILIP in Scotland President in 2015 and now as Honorary Vice President.
