Libraries Week 2019

Libraries Week is a celebration of the nation’s much-loved libraries. In 2019 we are celebrating the role of libraries in the digital world. Libraries Week 2019 will explore how libraries are engaging communities through technology, building digital skills and confidence, encouraging digital participation and inclusion, supporting health, wellbeing and education and supporting local business and enterprise.

Libraries Week 2019 will take place 7-12 October. Library staff and supporters can register now to take part and stay up to date on this year’s campaign. Get started now with out Get Ready for Libraries Week Guide.

We here at CILIP Scotland will be marking Libraries Week in a number of ways.

  1. The head of CILIPS, Sean McNamara, will be on the panel of experts at a Libraries Week event hosted in the Mitchell Library. This event, ‘Protecting Children and Young People in a Digital World‘ will be led by AH Proctor and will explore the role which libraries can play in supporting individuals, communities, and businesses to ensure children and young people are protected online.
  2. We will run our campaign #Library5 on Twitter. From Monday-Friday we will set a daily theme and we want library staff and the public to get involved by Tweeting us news and pictures of their library related to each theme. We aim to celebrate and show off the amazing libraries of Scotland and their resources and staff. Keep your eye on our Twitter for more news of this campaign in the lead up to Libraries Week.
  3. We are in the process of developing and enhancing our Advocacy and Campaigning pages – digital resources to help people support the library and information profession. Watch this space!
