Case Study on Live Literature – Taylor High School

The following case study was provided by Cathy MacIntyre, Learning Resource Centre Manager, The Joseph Wilson Library Resource Centre, Taylor High School

Taylor High School has been very fortunate when applying for the Scottish Book Trust Funding. We have managed to book some amazing authors and illustrators, it is always nerve wracking when you arrange a session for the school, will the content of the session meet the Department’s expectations and requirements? Will the students welcome our visitor and participate in any activities? Maybe more importantly, will the visitor be able to find the school entrance! The students who have enjoyed past sessions have been a mixture of readers and non-readers, one of the many benefits of booking professionals on the Live Literature database is that they help to encourage reluctant readers enjoy all types of material, from the classics to the graphic novel, they make sessions interactive and fun. The question and answer sessions cover amazing topics and the group photographs provide lasting memories of enjoyable experiences.

Hopefully we will continue to benefit from the Live Literature Funding for many years to come.

“Contemporary Scottish writer, Janice Galloway, delivered a session in the school’s Joseph Wilson Library and Resource Centre. Janice also led a question and answer session, among the topics discussed were writing, university, music, life and surprisingly her humourous reflections on Mushroom Factories! The group gained valuable insights into the world of writing as well as sharing lots of humour in the frank and open discussions. This was a fantastic experience for the young people and was only made possible by the Live Literature Funding and the hard work of our Librarian, Cathy MacIntyre.”
