Libraries Week 2020

Libraries Week is the annual, week-long celebration of the UK’s libraries! In 2020, it is taking place from 5th-10th of October and the theme is ‘Your Passport to Reading‘. This theme is all about showcasing libraries and their vital contributions to the UK’s book culture.

Libraries in all sectors, from public and school to higher education and health, are encouraged to get involved, celebrate books and reading, showcase their offer and services, and let everybody know how they contribute to building a Nation of Readers.

CILIPS Activities

At CILIP Scotland, we support Libraries Week each year in various ways (find out what we did last year) and this year is no different. In 2020 we will be:

  1. Supporting CILIP to get the word out about Libraries Week and encouraging our members to get involved – see the section below for key CILIP activities that you can take part in during Libraries Week
  2. Working with partners in Scotland to share stories about our brilliant libraries
  3. Running another #Library5 campaign. We continue to be inspired each year by the brilliant #Archive30 run by ARA Scotland on Twitter and, following the success of last year’s #Library5 campaign, we’re setting daily themes again this year and asking you to share pictures and news from your library! Click here for more information.

CILIP Activities

  1. Share your Reading Selfie: Using #MyBookLife and #LibrariesWeek, share a Reading Selfie on social media using the editable graphic available on the Libraries Week website
  2. #ExpressYourShelf: Take part in this campaign from Monday 5th October (the first day of Libraries Week) by simply taking a photo of your bookshelf or a book stack featuring books that are important to you and which you feel have shaped your world. Visit the Libraries Week website for more information and for social media graphics you can use to get involved
  3. A Space For…: As most of the Libraries Week celebrations need to take place digitally this year, it is really important to showcase the value of the physical library space. Get involved with this campaign during Libraries Week by sharing a photo of your library space using the editable social media graphic available on the Libraries Week website

We would also love to hear what you are getting up to in your library to celebrate this year. Get in touch with us via email or Tweet us @CILIPScotland to let us know and we’ll share on our social media and website.

Additionally, you can keep up to date with Libraries Week 2020 by following @librariesweek on Twitter and using #LibrariesWeek to share your plans.
