Libraries Week 2019

Libraries Week is a celebration of the nation’s much-loved libraries. In 2019, Libraries Week ran from 7-12 October with the theme of ‘Celebrating Libraries in the Digital World’.  The week explored how libraries are engaging communities through technology, building digital skills and confidence, encouraging digital participation and inclusion, supporting health, wellbeing and education, and supporting local business and enterprise.

You can find out what happened on Twitter using #LibrariesWeek.

We here at CILIP Scotland will be marked the week in a number of ways.

  1. Hear of CILIPS, Sean McNamara, was on the panel of experts at a Libraries Week event hosted in the Mitchell Library. This event, ‘Protecting Children and Young People in a Digital World‘ was led by children’s author AH Proctor and explored the role which libraries can play in supporting individuals, communities, and businesses to ensure children and young people are protected online.
  2. We ran our campaign #Library5 on Twitter. Read all about this campaign here.
  3. We developed and enhanced our Advocacy and Campaigning pages – digital resources to help people support the library and information profession. We will be continually adding to these pages and welcome any information that you would like to share too so get in contact with us if you have any tips, evidence, or have been involved in any campaigning that you would like to let us know about.
  4. We posted 3 Campaigning for Libraries blogs written by people who have recently been involved in advocacy and campaigning work. Read them here. If you would like to submit your own blog in this area, then please contact us.
