CILIPS SNPC Pub Night – October 2025
This pub social, arranged by the CILIPS Students and New Professionals Committee was a chance to engage and connect socially with peers from the Library and Information community in Scotland. Arranged to accomodate a post-lecture beverage after a day spent in uni or at work, this is a drop in event which was free for anyone to attend.
CILIPS SNPC Open Committee Meeting – October 2025
Curious about the SNPC? Want to learn more about what we do? Delegates came along to our Committee Meeting and found out what we’re all about, hearing ideas from around the room!
The committee is a space to connect and network with fellow sector newbies who are still in education or in the first seven years of their first library or information related role (or perhaps re-entering into the profession after a time away). For this special open committee meeting delegates did not need to be a CILIP member – it was a unique opportunity to see what networking and community could provide at this point in your career. This event was open to all students and new professionals from anywhere in the UK including international students.

LocScot and SNPC Present: Glasgow Libraries Tour
We collaborated with LocScot to host this in-person event exploring the ins-and-outs of two iconic Glaswegian libraries – the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons (GRCPS) and Glasgow Women’s Library! The behind the scenes tour was a unique way to learn about and see what’s involved in running these two libraries, as well as meet fellow students and professionals. We stopped for lunch along the way and ended the day with a pint at WEST Brewery!
2023
We celebrated the end of the semester on Sunday 10 December at our CILIPS Students and New Professionals Community at our End of Semester Pub Night!
Held at Bon Accord in Glasgow, it was a time to unwind and celebrate the end of another successful semester with fellow students and new professionals. The night was fun-filled, with lots of laughs and great company. And it was a fantastic opportunity to socialise, make new friends, and catch up with old ones. We hope to see more of you there in the future!
Our first event of 2023 was held on the 29th of April, chatting with the wonderful Sue Williamson MBE about all things public libraries.
2022
Bookish online quiz (Wednesday the 7th December). We encouraged our members to take a break from their exam studies, or the end of year work stress, and join us for an hour of Christmas jumpers and laughter! We also met up in-person on Friday the 9th December.
At Taking Different Paths: Open Source Library Solutions, we looked at career paths beyond the traditional idea of being on a library front desk. Eilish McLaughlin and Fiona Borthwick shared insights into their job roles at PTFS Europe, discussing how their library backgrounds have given them the knowledge and experience to work with open source library solutions! If you missed out, you can watch the recording, or check out our closed captions.
Previous Events
We also have an impressive rap sheet of previous events spanning our history as a committee! In August 2020, we ran our first ever event – an online Careers Workshop with Heather Marshall, Senior Librarian at Glasgow Caledonian University. If you missed out, you can view a recording of this session.
