The University of Edinburgh Library is hosting a three-part online public lecture series this autumn on the EU AI Act, following the Act through its full life cycle: how it was made, what it means for copyright in the age of AI, and how it will be enforced. Each session pairs a 30-minute talk from a leading EU figure with a panel discussion and audience Q&A. All sessions are free, open to all, and will be recorded.

Join Edinburgh Open Research on Friday 9th October from 1pm – 2.30pm and hear from leading speakers about the EU Copyright Act and what comes next.

The intersection of artificial intelligence and copyright is one of the most contested policy frontiers in Europe. This autumn, the University of Edinburgh is hosting a public online lecture series bringing together leading figures shaping the EU’s approach to AI governance and copyright protection – a chance to engage directly with those designing policy in real time.

Axel Voss is a Member of the European Parliament and leading advocate on digital copyright policy. He is currently rapporteur on the European Parliament’s own-initiative report on copyright and generative AI, and a key voice in ongoing debates about how copyright frameworks should evolve to address AI training, data mining, and the rights of creators and researchers. In this session, he will discuss the current state of EU copyright reform and what comes next.

Join for a 90-minute session comprising a 30-minute presentation followed by Q&A and discussion with Edinburgh academics from Law, the Edinburgh Futures Institute, Informatics, and Library/Copyright services.

The first session framed around copyright and generative AI will take place on Friday the 25th of September from 9.30am – 11am – click here to see more and register.
