Health Librarians Add Value with NHS Scotland Libraries and CILIPS

Join us, NHS Education for Scotland Knowledge Services (NES), and NHS Scotland (NHSS) librarians for this online event.

Date: 8th October, 10.30am-3pm

Location: Online via Microsoft Teams

The pandemic has impacted on all library services. Come along and join the NHSS librarians to hear stories of how librarians have contributed to the NHSS at this time. We will also glimpse at how the role of librarians could evolve with the digital transformation of the health service.

The schedule of the day will be as follows:

  • 10.30-10.40: Welcome and housekeeping, Annette Thain, NES
  • 10.40-10.55: CILIP and CILIPS advocacy for health librarians, Sean McNamara and Elizabeth Carney, CILIPS
  • 11.00-12.00: Showcase – Examples of LKS responses to the pandemic from Amanda Minns, NHS Lanarkshire, Michelle Kirkwood, NHSGGC, Julia Green, Public Health Scotland, and Katie Edwards, NES
  • 12.00-12.15: Coffee break in breakout rooms
  • 12:15-12:30: Towards computational text analysis, Tim Norwood, Healthcare Improvement Scotland
  • 12:30-12:45: Using NLP to get more value from free text data, Ken Nicholson, Public Health Scotland
  • 12:45-1:30: Lunch break
  • 1:30-2:00: Future of search: It’s intellidence, but not as we know it, Karen Blakeman, RBA Information Services
  • 2:00-2.20: Group discussion about the future of search in breakout rooms
  • 2:25-2:55: Looking to the future for healthcare librarianship, Ann Wales, Scottish Government Digital Health and Care Directorate
  • 2:55-3:00: Close
