‘My words, still to be written, waited patiently, as I rested my chin on the shelf.’

– From ‘Prayer & Breath’ by Nadine Aisha Jassat

Join Nadine Aisha Jassat for this unique Libraries Week #WINspiration as she shares reflections on her personal and poetical journey through libraries, from a child borrowing everything she could find in her local community library, to a writer whose work is displayed in the National Library of Scotland now, with many an adventure and poem in-between. Nadine will in particular share work which engages with the impact that libraries had on her journey, and their importance to her now – and the session will include a creative activity enabling participants to explore their own reflections, too.

Nadine Aisha Jassat is an acclaimed author and creative practitioner, and author of Let Me Tell You This described as ‘a joy both live and on the page’ by Hollie McNish and ‘beautifully written, immense and full of passion’ by Nikita Gill. Nadine has been published widely – including in Picador’s It’s Not About the Burqa and Bloodaxe’s Staying Human – and her work has received great praise, including winning a Scottish Book Trust New Writers’ Award, and appearing on Jackie’s Kay’s International Literature Showcase Selection. Nadine has performed her work in libraries locally and internationally – from Central Library to Cape Town, and from Stirling to St Andrews – and delivered lifelong learning work with community libraries for a number of years, as well as working with schools. Known as a regular borrower in her own local library, Nadine has travelled the world (and several magical universes) through the books she has borrowed – even if she never remembers her library card.

This free event will take the format of a reading and talk, followed by an interactive creative activity and a Q&A. Please register here to receive the Zoom joining link a few days in advance.
