… to fighting mis/disinformation

Librarians are the answer at the top of a search bar, with cursor hovering over search result that says '...to fighting mis/disinformation'

QHow are libraries and librarians helping to tackle mis and dis-information?

A – As one of the most trusted professions, librarians are uniquely placed to provide skills training and support to help their users improve their information literacy and critical thinking skills. Librarians in recent years have been involved in a range of projects such as Google Super Searchers and the new partnership project between CILIPS, Young Scot and the Ferret to co-design training materials for librarians.

Recent research has also shown that school librarians are perfectly placed to support this training if asked.

These skills and the need for them has been on librarian’s agenda for many years, and this is highlighted by networks involving library staff such as the CILIP Information Literacy Group, The Media and Information Literacy Alliance and Scotland’s own Media and Information Literacy Community of Practice.
