… to Scotland achieving Net Zero by 2045
Q – How can we inspire the people of Scotland to come together to combat the climate crisis and achieve Net Zero?
A – ‘If you have a garden and a library,’ wrote Cicero in 46BC, ‘you have everything you need,’ and today’s libraries are likewise vital to environmental education and action. Recent Green Libraries Grant Fund projects showcasing this impact include Threads of Change, equipping patrons with sustainable skills and educating them about fast fashion, which contributes 300,000 tonnes of waste to UK landfill annually, and Seeds to Success, a support-for-learning eco-collection rooted in the UK’s first Green School Library. Growing numbers of library staff are also cascading Carbon Literacy for Libraries, a shareable course that accredits librarians with the knowledge to help patrons reduce their carbon footprints.
