100 Diaries That Chronicled World Events by Colin Salter

In an event sponsored by CILIP Scotland, please join us at this year’s Aye Write Festival to hear from author Colin Salter about his new book ‘100 Diaries that Chronicled World Events’: a compendium of the most celebrated diaries from the great, the good and the downright evil.

These published journals present a unique insight into their time and place, featuring a diverse range of accounts from all over the world. The book includes musings, observations, and recollections from the likes of John Adams, Samuel Pepys, Kurt Cobain, Virginia Woolf, Frida Kahlo, Queen Victoria, Andy Warhol, and Lord Byron. But it’s not just household names. Colin also highlights lesser-known diarists, such as Jakob Walter, a foot soldier who gave a vivid insight into the Napoleonic wars, and Mary Chesnut, a privileged planter’s wife in South Carolina, who documented the South’s decline in the Civil War.

Chaired by CILIPS Sector Development Manager Kirsten MacQuarrie, Colin’s event will take place at 6pm on Sunday 9th November at The Mitchell Library in Glasgow. Free tickets are available for CILIPS members on a first come, first served basis: click quick to reserve yours now!
