CILIP in Scotland has reached out to librarians and information professionals from a wide variety of positions and asked them what they do on a daily basis and how they got into that type of roll. Read below for some librarians and information professionals explaining what it is they do. Our first post is by Charles Oppenheim, a self employed consultant who specialises in copyright, data protection, scholarly publishing and licence negotiation. He began his professional career in the 1970s and has experience working in a variety of positions. Read more of his story here.


Our next post is by Christine Love-Rodgers, the College Lead, Library Academic Support (Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences) at the University of Edinburgh. Maggy Jones is the Head Librarian at the Samye Library for World Religions. In 2013 she began the massive undertaking of turning the books that were donated to Samye Ling Tibetan Buddhist Centre in Dumfriesshire over a 40 year span into a beautiful library. Kayleigh McGarry head shotKayleigh McGarry is the Supreme Courts Librarian for the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service (SCTS). She works on a team of five to provide legal research support to the senior judiciary, Supreme Courts staff and other employees of SCTS. Read more of what this entails here.


Penny Robertson is the Libraries Manager at City of Glasgow College. She oversees two campus libraries that cater to approximately 30,000 students. She works with an innovative and proactive team of librarians, library systems analysts and library and information assistants. Read more of her story here.
