Could you be the new Co-Chair of CILIP’s Public and Mobile Libraries Group?

In July 2024, PMLG launched as an online community – the first of its kind at CILIP. Since then, we have had over one hundred people sign up and we believe that the online group will benefit from having dedicated champions to guide PMLG members and expand our network.

With this in mind, we are reaching out to gather expressions of interest for volunteer leadership roles within PMLG. Co-Chair duties (approximately 1hr a week) may include:

  • Reviewing and replying to queries if able to or signposting for others.
  • Role modelling the peer-to-peer engagement.
  • Chair meetings amongst the committee and CILIP.
  • Reviewing benefit of PMLG Online to members. Recruiting for vacancies for the other positions as required.
  • Reviewing and approving events organised by Digital Events Champion & CPD Champion.

Requirements

Due to the nature of the role, we would ask that you are currently working in the public library sector and would feel comfortable advocating for libraries and librarians in the public arena.

We understand that our members have intensely busy schedules, so we encourage you to consider the time commitments involved and we hope the new format will offer a more flexible approach.

Volunteering on a CILIP committee is an excellent way to:

  • Develop a range of transferable skills (including some that may not be available through your current role).
  • Expand professional networks.
  • Show commitment and passion to your profession.
  • Build evidence for Professional Registration.

If this role is not quite right for you but you would like to be involved in the PMLG committee in another way, please do get in touch. Whether you would like to contribute to one topic, one event, or one year in leadership, we’d love to hear from you!

CILIP is committed to championing diversity, inclusion and representation. We particularly welcome applications from ethnically diverse, disabled, and LGBTQ+ professionals who have historically been under-represented on our committees.

Please send your expressions of interest to joanne.card@cilip.org.uk. Thanks everyone!
