Discover! Creative Careers Scotland is a free-to-access, industry-led, UK Government programme designed to inspire and inform 11–18 years olds about career opportunities in the creative industries including museums, archives and libraries. So could you inspire the next generation of librarians and information professionals by shining a light on all of the incredible, creative and fulfilling work that librarians carry out on a daily basis?

CILIPS members have been invited to be part of this exciting Scotland-wide initiative. Can you help widen access into the creative industries by delivering an in-person learning opportunity for young people about your industry? (Stay tuned for a possible CILIPS-run session too!)

There are so many exciting and flexible ways to offer an opportunity:

  • Have you got an hour? You could organise an assembly talk
  • A half day? You could organise workplace visits or hands-on activities at careers fairs
  • A day or more? You could organise a workshop, a day of shadowing, or a work placement
  • You could also deliver an online activity (though we encourage in-person activity where possible)

Why take part?

  • Awareness raising and PR for your own organisation; be part of a national and UK wide campaign
  • Development for your staff, a great employee-supported volunteer opportunity and learning opportunity to work directly with young people
  • Make new connections with schools and the education sector – Just register your opportunity on the website, and we’ll do the work to find schools/colleges that want to take part
  • Take concrete steps in developing a skilled and inclusive future workforce for your industry
  • Help fulfil your organisation’s EDI targets and initiatives

Feedback from past partners:

“We found that it’s hugely energising for both sides” (BAGGI, DCC partners in England)

“I would encourage you all to run a session or online event and share the passion that first brought you into this sector. The students will be so interested to hear all about it” (H&ME Creations, Discover! Partners in England)
