This #GreenLibrariesWeek, supported by the Green Libraries Scotland Grant Fund, West Dunbartonshire Libraries is inviting applications for an Environmentalist-in-Residence to take up a 35 hour micro-residency at West Dunbartonshire Libraries, during the period November – December 2023. The deadline for applications is Monday 9th October at 23:55 – please share this opportunity across your own environmental action networks, CILIPS members!

The resident will have the flexibility to choose work hours across this time period, liaising with West Dunbartonshire Sustainability Coordinator Eleanor White and the Service Development Librarian.

The ideal person will be a new graduate artist with proven knowledge in one or more of the following areas: sustainable arts practices, natural history, biodiversity, climate justice, and grassroots community involvement in climate action.

The Environmentalist-in-Residence will be primarily based at Alexandria Library (Gilmour Street, Alexandria, G83 0DA), the location of West Dunbartonshire Libraries’ “Food Forest” permaculture garden.

The resident artist will provide:

– 2 public workshops for young people aged 12-17.
– Worksheet, zine, or handling kit to engage with Alexandria Library Garden. A handling kit is a curated collection of materials for patrons to check-out and independently engage with the material.

Applicants have the freedom to adapt these deliverables and use their creativity to present the Libraries team with their own vision of how they could engage with different audiences and West Dunbartonshire Libraries collections.

The budget for materials or equipment will be a maximum of £500.00. West Dunbartonshire Libraries are committed to fair pay and the Environmentalist-in-Residence will be remunerated at £26.20 per hour for a new graduate artist – as per The Scottish Artists’ Union Recommended Rates of Pay.

Applicants are invited to submit a proposal that includes the following:

Relevant Experience
a. CV (max 2 pages).
b. Two references (who will not be contacted without prior notice)

Proposal
a. A brief proposal (max 1 page) outlining the proposed approach to the delivery of all aspects of the work.
b. A brief budget outline, including a breakdown of equipment/materials costs.
