Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion

Category: News

The CILIPS Trustee Board has firmly welcomed the CILIP Action Plan committing to embed diversity within the work of CILIP. The Board has agreed to give their support to it and as an independent organisation it was agreed that CILIPS would consult with members and the wider profession and set out our own action plan, including targets for representation on committees within Scotland.

For background, the CILIP Action Plan commits to the following:

  • That CILIP will be creating an Anti-Racist Policy and action plan in close collaboration with the BAME Network.
  • To amend the elections process for the Board to promote greater representation of BAME professionals in CILIP leadership and governance.
  • To support all of CILIP’s Regional Member Networks, Special Interest Groups, CILIP Cymru Wales, CILIP Ireland and our delegated panels to diversify their boards and committees to reach the company-wide goal of 20% BAME representation on all of our committees by the end of 2022. To facilitate this, we are offering up to 150 complimentary memberships to library and information workers from BAME backgrounds who are selected to join a committee before the end of 2022.
  • To work with Diversity Networks and our Community, Diversity and Equality Group to establish an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Oversight Committee to accelerate the embedding of diversity and inclusion throughout CILIP.
  • To implement an annual Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Audit.

The CILIPS Board has asked a short life working group of Trustees to set out what the aims and objectives of the work should be and then will consult with the profession in Scotland and will aim to complete this as soon as possible, and within 2021.
