Use of Generative AI in Scotland-based Libraries Survey
Category: Blog
‘Use of Generative AI in Scotland-based Libraries‘ is a Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC) funded project conducted by Prof. Gobinda Chowdhury (University of Strathclyde), with CILIPS as the project partner.
This study focuses on librarians’ use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Scottish libraries. Library staff assist the public to seek diverse types of information, for example, health, employment, travel etc. However, it is uncertain how librarians support and educate the public (users) to find relevant information through the use of AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Gemini etc). This research intends to explore how Scotland-based library professionals utilise generative AI for undertaking information-related tasks and identify how they engage with library users, for example, the type of questions they receive from users regarding AI, the common topics where users seek in-depth information etc.
If you work in a library in Scotland please fill out the survey, which should take you no more than 10 minutes to complete. All responses will be anonymised, and used for research purposes only. The survey will remain open for 3 weeks – please share amongst colleagues and peers, you do not need to be a CILIPS members to submit a response.
