January Challenge Pack for Libraries with 64 Million Artists

Category: Blog, News

So what is the January Challenge 2024?

We’re thrilled to have partnered with 64 Million Artists to have created a Libraries Pack for The January Challenge. The January Challenge is 31 creative prompts over 31 days, each designed by different people and communities across the UK. Join thousands of people opening a creative prompt daily throughout January and see where it leads you! Join over 50,000 people participating in The January Challenge 2024 by signing up here!

As the beating hearts of our communities and often the only free-to-access space where diverse groups gather to share ideas and inspire one another, the link between libraries and creativity is stronger than ever today. From what we call our creative contributions – poetry, prose, photography, painting and even performance art that all enhances our advocacy campaigns on behalf of the libraries sector – to the support that Scotland’s libraries enjoy from acclaimed, award-winning creatives like Damian Barr, Kerry Hudson, Peter May and Theresa Breslin, the team at CILIP Scotland know library-led creativity truly can change lives.

You can sign up as an individual participant or creativity champion, where you will receive training to undertake the challenge within your library or institution. Luckily for you, we are hosting this training for our members and their colleagues, which is open to all library staff across the UK.

In this creative and collaborative training webinar on Wednesday 22nd of November 10:30am – 12pm, we will welcome Jemima Frankel from 64 Million Artists to introduce the first-ever Libraries Challenge Pack, to which CILIPS have been honoured to contribute. We will discover how libraries of all sectors can take part this January: from highlighting each day’s challenge on your library noticeboard and social media channels to incorporating the activities into your beloved Bookbug sessions and existing craftivism clubs, or even using the daily prompts to tempt in anyone yet to cross the library threshold, the only limit is your imagination. We’re especially excited for CILIPS challenge day on Wednesday 24th January, when the CILIPS team will be visiting our own local branches to join this incredible nationwide co-creation. We’d love to see you there, so click here to book!

This is a public event open to all library staff, you do not need to be a CILIP member to attend.

Join us and let your light shine bright this January, library staff. We know you’re more than up for the Challenge!
