Quit Your Way – How library staff can support patrons to stop smoking

Quit Your Way is an advice and support service for anyone looking for help to stop smoking tobacco. Their team of friendly practitioners help people who are thinking about stopping smoking, ready to stop smoking or just looking for some more information about what help is available for them to stop smoking. Once someone is ready to stop, the team follows up with them weekly for 12 weeks, either by phone calls or seeing them in person at one of their sessions in Edinburgh, West Lothian, East Lothian, Midlothian and several other locations around Scotland.
Their practitioners offer motivation and encouragement, advice on coping mechanisms and discussion of smoking habits. When appropriate they also request stop smoking medications that can help make a person’s quit more comfortable and increase their chances of successfully stopping and staying stopped. If someone does not want behavioural support, there is also the option of going to a local pharmacy to receive stop smoking medication through the Quit Your Way pharmacy scheme.
Quit Your Way can also provide library staff with resources for patrons or offer information sessions where they chat to your team about stopping smoking and look at opportunities for partnership working.
