As Volunteers’ Week 2022 begins and we prepare for CILIPS22, our first in-person conference for three years, CILIP Scotland is sending a heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers whose hard work, dedication and commitment play an essential part in our advocacy on behalf of Scotland’s library sector.

‘At CILIPS we believe that volunteers should not undertake core service delivery or be asked to replace the specialised roles of staff who work in libraries,’ notes Head of CILIPS Sean McNamara. ‘However, we also recognise that volunteers have long supported and provided highly valuable additional support, working alongside qualified and paid staff, and they should be acknowledged and valued for this vital role.

This is also the case at CILIPS, where we rely hugely on our volunteer network. That includes our wonderful Trustees, presidential team  and Council members who give up their time alongside complex day jobs to help guide our charity. Also, our many branches and groups are led by committees of volunteers who develop networking and event opportunities across the country and online and make up an essential part of the CILIPS CPD offer. And as we approach our Annual Conference it is important to mention our volunteers who help deliver the event alongside the CILIPS team.

This Volunteer Week we thank all that help CILIPS run effectively, we wouldn’t be able to do it without you.’
