Wiki Loves Monuments is back this September

Category: News

Wiki Loves Monuments is back again this year! This is an annual international photography competition supported by the Wikimedia Foundation. It asks those taking part to submit photographs of listed buildings and scheduled monuments. The aim is to crowdsource high quality, open-licensed images of these historic sites and document our heritage, sharing it for the common good.

Every year, Wikimedia UK organises the UK section of Wiki Loves Monuments. This is one of many international chapters that takes part in the competition and prizes are offered for the best pictures from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and England. These winning entries then go on to the international competition.

The competition will run this year from 1st-30th September and you can submit as many photos as you want, and the images can be used to illustrate Wikipedia, one of the most widely read websites in the world.

This is a different and fun way to engage with Wikipedia and you don’t have to be a photography expert. The competition website has a guide to taking part, and Wikimedia UK are running a pair of online sessions to show people how to take part on 3 September and 21 September.

We’d love to see a lot of Scottish entries this year so get involved if you can!
