#Library5 Day 5

For the final day of #Library5, we wanted to know why people value and love libraries. Libraries mean different things to different people. For some, they are quiet spaces for reading and reflection, for others they provide crucial access to the Internet and technology, others still value them as community hubs where they can meet with friends and attend social events. Read on to see some of the lovely posts shared on Day 5 that really demonstrate how important libraries are.

• We loved that so many #Library5 participants got their library patrons involved for the final day. The result when you ask users to sum up what libraries mean to them? Lots of great qualitative feedback showcasing how important libraries and library staff are. Check out some of the feedback shared by Edinburgh Central Library, Advocates Library, University of Glasgow Library and the National Library of Scotland @ Kelvinhall. We couldn’t help but feel warm and fuzzy inside reading some of these – “it feels like home” might be our favourite quote of the day!
• One of our favourite contributions was school librarian Shelagh Toonen who shared some feedback from pupils about why their school library is so important to them. The comments are all amazing and you can view them here, here, here, and here.
• The Senior Librarian at the Advocates Library shared some lovely memories showing why libraries (and library staff) are so amazing!
• Some of the staff at Shetland Library as well as a user outline why libraries are important to them here, here, and here.
• Great to see some pics of the staff and users of the University of Stirling Library. A library community is a powerful thing!
• FE libraries are crucial because they have resources to support students studying all different kinds of subjects – for example tools for nautical students.
• There are multiple reasons to love libraries…and to join and support your local library, as Libraries NL point out.
