#Library5 2020 Day 3
Day 3 of #Library5 saw us celebrating all things digital! We asked libraries and librarians to share the ways that people can access their services online. While physical library services are essential, libraries also do so much excellent work to ensure their services can be accessed remotely, which has been espeically crucial this year. Read on to find out about the digital offer from various types of libraries:
- SNHS library highlighted that school librarians have been working really hard to deliver services digitally during lockdown. They have been supporting each other through meeting up virtually to share experiences
- The NHSGGC Library Network’s digital library service has been very important this year – especailly the resources available via the Knowledge Netowrk and the remote literature search services that the librarians have been offering
- Orkeny Library say their digital services have been so important this year and shared this excellent thread all about the resources they have on offer
- West Dunbartonshire have been further developing their digital offer throughout lockdown, and they highlighted some of the key services they offer as well as quotes from service users showing how valued these are. They offer something for people of all ages online and their e- and auidbooks mean users have a passport to reading 24/7
- Alloa Academy Library has created a virtual library that allows pupils to explore book recommendatins and reviews, access e- and auidobooks, and also take part in activities – it looks brilliant!
- Chris Wilson, E-Services Librarian at CultureNL, shared some information about the new For the Love of Books podcast which the library service runs – a great offer for the public!
- Elgin Academy Library show how the digital and physical often combine to deliver a quality service. For example, they are now offering a click and collect service where pupils go online, fill out a form to select books, and these are then delivered
- East Lothian Libraries shared a whole host of digital resources that their uses can make use of:
- Reading resources including eBooks, eMagazines and eAudiobooks
- Learn a new language with Transparent Language Online
- Online support for sitting your Theory Test through your library membership
- You can even watch live music with your library membership!
- Jessie, a Librarian work in health and HE, highlighted the tailored, one-to-one digital library inductions and training that health librarians provide
- Inverclyde Libraries shared information about some of the accessibility features that can be made use of BorrowBox to ensure everyone can make use of digital library resources
- The National Library of Scotland Maps department shared some of their digital maps on Twitter
- South Ayrshire libraries shared that their online book collection allowed their communities to escape from the difficulties of the year
- Bellshill Academy Library developed a new Glow website for pupils to ensure they could access a library service during lockdown
- St George’s School Library shared all of the great online resources they offer
- Aberdeen City Libraries shared information about some of their online resources including eComics, eMagazines, Theory Test study support, and local archives
- Aberdeen Grammar School say “you can take a bit of the library home with you with our library website” which we think is a lovely way of referring to virtual library services!
- West College Scotland Libraries have been using new platforms such as Wakelet to imrpove access to their online collections and resources. Check out how they’ve been promoting what staff and students can access remotely
- Kirkcaldy Galleries say their digital service has been a key way of staying connected to their users. Keeping in touch via technology has been vital for libraries and users while physical access to libraries is restricted due to COVID-19
- The National Library of Scotland at Kelvinhall shared a brilliant film from their Moving Image catalogue
